Artist Biography

Oliver Fartach-Naini has established an international reputation for innovative collaborations that have encompassed a diverse range of musical styles, from tango and oriental to classical and contemporary forms. Tours, master classes, festivals as well as radio and TV appearances in Europe, Asia, Australia and the USA have brought him international acclaim.

His recording activities include the CD Tangos sin Palabras (2003) with his Tango quintett Tango Concertante and the Persian music CD Didar – Live in Berlin (2004) for which he collaborated with Majid Derakhshani (composition, tar and voice), Thea Nielsen (flute) and Amir Abbas Zare (daf). Oliver’s Deutsche Grammophon world premiere recording of Schubert’s Winterreise, arranged for viola (Richard Yongjae O’Neill) and two guitars, topped the South Korean Classical Charts for three months after its release in early October 2007. To date Oliver Fartach-Naini has released 7 CDs with 5 different chamber music formations for the German Labels Deutsche Grammophon, Kreuzberg Records and Acoustic Music Records. 2014 will see two new CDs with his guitar duo partner Lee Song-Ou from South Korea.

In 2006 the German publisher Edition Margaux honoured Oliver with the publication of the series Collection Oliver Fartach-Naini, a selection of numerous compositions written for and dedicated to him and his ensembles. His standing as an educator has seen him selected as the repertoire consultant for the 2012 AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) classical guitar syllabus which entailed the publication of 7 graded repertoire books and the compilation of a 1000 work repertoire list for classical guitar.

As a student of American guitarist and composer Laurie Randolph Oliver Fartach-Naini holds degrees from the University of the Arts Berlin (Instrumental Studies) and the Academy of Music and Theatre Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig (Music Performance). He has also participated in a host of international master classes, including those with Eduardo Fernandez, Alvaro Pierri, Abel Carlevaro, Thomas Müller-Pering, Pepe Romero, Hopkinson Smith and Nigel North.

Since his relocation from Berlin to Adelaide in 2005, Oliver has lectured in guitar performance at the University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium of Music.
